From Vacuum Forming to a Single Injection-Molded Housing
Lower costs, a stronger cover, and one universal housing for all configurations of the UP stairlift.
The challenge
The situation
DeVi-Group is a global supplier of stairlifts, known for innovation and luxury finishing. The covers of the UP stairlift used to be vacuum formed.
This resulted in high production costs, limited strength, difficult assembly, and a less attractive appearance. DeVi looked for a way to tackle all of this at once and lower the costs.

What we did
Our approach
- Replacing the vacuum-formed covers with injection-molded covers: stronger, more precise, and cheaper in series.
- Designed one universal housing for all configurations, so separate components disappeared and assembly became simpler.
- Deployed flame-retardant materials that comply with the strictest safety standards.
- Contributed from design to production, with the mold made in-house.
What it delivers
The result
Lower costs
The new covers are cheaper to produce than the vacuum-formed variant.
Stronger and quieter
Stronger, more durable, and with less motor noise.
One housing
Universal housing for all variants lowers assembly costs.
We wanted covers that are stronger, quieter and more luxurious without increasing the cost price. QDP solved this with one universal injection-molded housing.
