Since 1998 · Duiven and Shengzhou

We think in molds, for more than 25 years

QDP is the company of Maick Klaassen: product development and Design for Manufacturability in Duiven, injection molding production in our own factory in Shengzhou. From the first sketch to series production, under one roof.

Maick Klaassen, founder and CEO of QDP

The person

Maick Klaassen, founder and CEO

His education is hands-on through and through: LTS Metal, MTS and HTS Mechanical Engineering, with filing, turning, milling, and CNC as his profession. From the age of fourteen, he was already programming machines and making drawings in a furniture factory, and as a child, he already drew cars. Designing and making things himself has been in him from an early age.

QDP is the company of Maick Klaassen. He founded it in 1998, after a start in the semiconductor industry and years as one of the first freelancers in the Netherlands. Through mold making, including test molds for the shavers from Philips Drachten, he found his foundation: knowing how something needs to be made before you design it.

More than 25 years later, he is still actively involved in customer conversations, product development and the direction of the company. His motto sums up what QDP stands for: we think in molds. Every design with us is assessed for manufacturability from the very first sketch.

The story

From one-man business to own factory

Maick Klaassen started his career in the semiconductor industry and as one of the first freelancers in the Netherlands, years before the word 'zzp’er' existed. After the dotcom crash, he consciously sought a crisis-proof sector: you always need food. Through the food and packaging sector, making lids for dairy companies among others, he ended up in injection molding and at a mold maker that built, among others, test molds for the shavers of Philips Drachten. Those years at the drawing board formed the foundation: knowing how something should be made before you design it.

In 2005, he started outsourcing injection molding in China. A Chinese factory likes to make a new mold, even for a small series: that’s where the margin is. As soon as the repeat orders came, in our sweet spot of 500 to 20,000 pieces, the same factory earned only a few hundred euros per order, and the attention disappeared. Delivery times increased, quality dropped, and twice an entire mold set simply disappeared at a supplier: same building, different letters on the sign, different machines. Lying to customers about those delivery times was not for him. This is the classic risk of outsourcing: as a customer, you are too small for the factory, and your product no longer gets any attention.

In 2010 the decision was made: an own factory, together with a sourcing partner and a contributing customer. Two years later, that sourcing partner wanted to start producing themselves on the joint machines; we bought them out. Since 2012, QDP is 100 percent owner of that factory, now known as ShengZhou MeiTaiLi Machinery Co., LTD. Are you doing this yourself in China and does this sound familiar? Then that’s exactly what we work for.

Mission and vision

What we stand for

Mission. We help companies turn their ideas into tangible, high-quality products that make an impact. Concretely, that means: guiding a customer from the first sketch to monthly production series, with design, engineering, mold making, injection molding, quality assurance and logistics all in-house. Our tagline, Where Imagination Meets Realization, sums that up.

Vision. A future in which innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. That is in choices for biobased and recycled materials, in energy-efficient injection molding machines that consume 20 to 80 percent less than traditional machines, and in a production process where waste reduction is taken seriously. For the Proteus Smart Display by Pure Value, that resulted in 85 percent less cardboard waste: an example of how an innovative product and a sustainable approach reinforce each other.

Visionary

We look forward to what will be needed in two years, not just what a customer requests now.

Transform

From great concept to product on the market: that difference is in hundreds of details, and that’s where we excel.

Guide

Personal advice, with clear language about what is feasible. Better to be honest early than too late.

Energetic

Passion and innovation are the engine. Boring projects basically don't exist for us.

Perfectionism

Quality is a production requirement, not a marketing claim. Hence our product guarantee.

The chain

Under one roof: from idea to series

In Duiven the focus is on product development and preparing for production: mold-flow analyses, fine-tuning files, all checks before a mold starts. That's where engineering is. In Shengzhou we then produce for customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Spain, on energy-efficient machines and with SMETA 4-Pillars certification for labor, health, environment and ethics.

  • /Sweet spot 500 to 20,000 pieces per run, scalable to millions of units.
  • /Mold is always property of the customer, with ownership certificate.
  • /Product guarantee: not produced as designed, then you get your investment back.
  • /Logistics from our factory to destinations worldwide. Customs clearance and import duties up to the Netherlands are included in the price. Delivery to the door is specified in the offer.
  • /For many customers, we also manage the complete drawing and revision management, including for items where the customer no longer has CAD files themselves.

The team

Small team, short lines

QDP runs on a small team where everyone takes their own responsibility. No layer upon layer of handover, but direct communication with the people who design, produce and ship your product.

Since when does QDP exist?+

QDP has existed since 1998 and has now been involved in product development and injection molding production for more than 25 years for B2B customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Spain.

Where is QDP's factory?+

Product development is in Duiven, the Netherlands. Injection molding production takes place in the wholly owned factory ShengZhou MeiTaiLi Machinery Co., LTD in Shengzhou, Zhejiang, China, where QDP has been full owner since 2012.

Is QDP ISO certified?+

Yes. QDP is ISO 9001:2015 certified and its own factory in China is SMETA 4-Pillars certified for labor, health, environment and ethics. QDP is also a member of the Koninklijke Metaalunie.

Can I have 3D printing done at QDP?+

QDP only uses 3D printing internally for design validation during its own development projects, not as a separate external service. If you have a 3D-printed prototype that you want to scale up to injection molding, that is exactly where QDP begins.

What happens if my product is not produced as designed?+

Then you get your investment back. This is the QDP product guarantee, contractually established and not a marketing promise.

We analyze an existing product for material choice, wall thickness, and components, and redesign based on function, ergonomics, and manufacturability. Cost-down processes and further developments typically deliver 10 to 30 percent lower unit prices.

How do I start a process with QDP?+

First calculate your mold and unit price in two minutes with our online calculator, or schedule a non-binding brainstorm with Maick Klaassen. If you do not have drawings or dimensions yet, we will simply think along with you in that first conversation.
