Improving an existing product
Stronger, more attractive, and easier to manufacture
Has your product been on the market for years? We uncover the weak spots and only redesign what needs improvement. Proven functionality remains.
A product that has been running carries years of decision-making. There is almost always room: fewer parts, smarter wall thickness, a stronger construction, or a lower unit price.
Further development is not a new beginning, but targeted intervention where it counts. We analyze what exists, reveal the weak points, and only redesign what truly needs to be better.
Does this sound familiar?
Your product always fails or wears out in the same spot
Then we reinforce specifically with clever ribs and the right material choice, without extra weight or sink marks on the visible side.
Your supplier no longer wants or is able to invest
Then we take over, including a new mold built in-house. If you purchase it, you will receive the certificate of ownership.
Your product looks outdated or is expensive to assemble
Then we redesign its appearance, ergonomics, and number of parts, so that the product looks better and is easier to make.
How we approach it
First understand, then targeted redesign
We start with your current product and the process around it. Where are the pain points: in strength, assembly, appearance, unit price, or delivery time? Only when that is clear do we redesign. Targeted, so proven functionality remains and weak spots are removed.
Because design, mold construction and injection molding are under one roof here, you are not dependent on an intermediary supplier. Also, with unique sizes that others shy away from, we more easily say yes.
The common thread is Design for Manufacturing: by designing more cleverly, a product can improve on several fronts at once. Not either cheaper or better, but both.
Not either cheaper or better. Both.
By designing smarter, an existing product improves in function, quality, and cost price all at once.
Where the gains usually are
With an existing product, we keep seeing the same points for improvement return.
01 Eliminating parts
Merging several separate parts into a universal housing or an integrated part. Fewer components means easier assembly and fewer failure risks.
02 Strength at the weak spots
Reinforce specifically where the product fails or flexes, with smart ribs instead of more material. Stronger without extra weight or sink marks on the visible side.
03 Ergonomics and finishing
Remove sharp edges, improve grip, elevate the appearance. Small changes that make a difference in how the product feels and looks.
04 Material and manufacturability
A better matching material and a mold-friendly design reduce the unit price and cycle time, and make production more stable.

Products that became better
Four existing products that are stronger, more attractive, or easier to make after redesign.
From vacuum forming to one injection-molded housing
Replacing several vacuum-formed covers with one universal injection-molded housing: stronger, quieter, and more luxurious.
"We wanted covers that are stronger, quieter, and more luxurious without increasing the unit price. QDP solved that with one universal injection-molded housing."

A unique ragout tray, and the mold belongs to you
The worn-out mold from the previous supplier was not replaced. We built a new one to the exact size, reinforced at the weak spots, with certificate of ownership.
"QDP is one of the few suppliers who can say yes to these dimensions. The communication lines are very short, which is pleasant."

A locker lock that became both cheaper and better
Removed sharp edges, added new features and at the same time a lower production cost.

Improving an existing product in brief
My mold is worn out. Can you build a new one?+
Yes. We build a new mold in-house and immediately look at the weak spots of the product, so you not only replace but also improve. If you purchase the mold, you receive the certificate of ownership and it is used exclusively for you.
Can a product become cheaper and better at the same time?+
Yes. That is the core of DfM: by designing smarter, a product can improve in several ways at once. For the Pin-Lock lock, we removed the sharp edges, integrated new features, and at the same time reduced production costs.
My current supplier does not want to invest anymore. What now?+
Then we take over. We have design, mold making, and production under one roof, so you are not dependent on an intermediary supplier. Even with unique or unusual sizes, we more easily say yes.
Will the redesign change the function of my product?+
Only where you want it. We improve function, ergonomics, and manufacturability without losing proven functionality and appearance. What works stays, what can be improved, we address.
