The push button at Leidseplein, with sixteen years' warranty
Thousands of pedestrians a day, and all of them press impatiently. That places demands on more than just the electronics.
The challenge
The situation
A push button at a crosswalk at a busy intersection has to endure thousands of hands per day, and not all of them gentle. Trouble-free operation is the minimum.
Everything that comes after also counts: color fastness in wind and weather, easy installation, and resistance to those who kick it.
There was something else. Traffic light poles have different diameters, and that had previously meant different models in stock.

What we did
Our approach
- The button was designed for lifespan rather than cost alone, with a sixteen-year operational warranty as the starting point.
- A distinctive square shape was chosen, making the product recognizable among all the other items on a pole.
- A smart rubber intermediate solution was included, allowing the same button to fit several pole diameters.
- Material and finish were chosen for color fastness outdoors, because a discolored button looks broken even if it still works.
What it delivers
The result
Sixteen-year warranty
On operation, which is exceptional for a product in public space.
One model instead of more
The rubber solution covers the different pole diameters.
Recognizable in the streetscape
The square shape distinguishes itself from the round standard.
