QDP WINNER RED DOT AWARD
Winner Red Dot Design Award
The Red Dot Design Award for good design and innovation is the Champions League for industrial design. We are therefore highly honored that we have won this prestigious award with our design for the LivePicture GO, a product of our client Mobilane.
LivePicture Go
We have worked with Mobilane, which supplies innovative low-maintenance green systems for, among other things, offices, for years. For example, we produce the frames for various versions of their LivePictures, a combination of art and greenery on the wall. On behalf of Mobilane, we designed a smaller version of this: the LivePicture GO. We jointly brought this variant into production, and it is successfully marketed by Mobilane, especially for application in the home interior.
High-gloss frame
LivePicture GO is made entirely from plastic. In the design, we paid special attention to the high-gloss frame. To avoid the use of lacquer—due to the costly additional production step and environmental impact—we have chosen injection molding production with special extremely scratch-resistant molds. The result is an extremely smooth and shiny frame. Along with the innovative watering system for the plants in the LivePicture Go, this was an important reason for awarding the LivePicture GO the Red Dot Award in the garden appliances and garden tools category.
Hall of fame
As an award winner, the LivePicture Go automatically received a place in the Red Dot Design Museum, the world’s largest continuous exhibition of leading contemporary design. It underlines once again the special qualities of our QDP design team. Our approach
Prototyping
Prototyping is essential for achieving a high-quality product. With prototyping, necessary changes can be made at an early stage. This prevents mistakes, unnecessary work, and high costs.
With our technology, we can produce highly realistic prototypes that are one-to-one comparable with the final injection molded product.
From idea to product
When the chosen concept with the desired requirements has been developed and optimized, we consider material selection, surface finish, and product strength. Simulations regarding tolerance and load capacity are also addressed. In this process, extra space is taken into account for any components and wiring as well as for ease of assembly and installation.
Production
Ultimately, your design is ready to be produced (in larger series). This can be done using injection molding or 3D printing.
When we reach the production process, we are 100% certain of the qualities and properties of the final product.

Frequently asked questions about design and development
We are happy to answer your questions.
How to bring a new product to market?
There are several steps you can take to bring a new product to market:
- Come up with a new product idea and research if there is demand for it in the market.
- Make a prototype of the product and test it to see if it meets the needs and wishes of customers.
- Start production of the product and create a marketing plan to make the product known to the public.
- Sell the product via stores, online sales platforms, or directly to customers.
- Keep improving the product and discover new sales channels to stimulate sales.
It is important to ensure that the product is of high quality and meets the needs of customers. Additionally, you must ensure that you have a clear marketing plan to make the product known to the public and stimulate sales.
What do we mean by product development?
How much does it cost to make a product?
How do you create a prototype of a product?
There are several ways to create a prototype of a product, depending on the specific requirements of the product and the available resources. A number of steps that are often taken to create a prototype are:
- Make a detailed design of the product using drawings or computer programs such as CAD software.
- Choose the materials that will be used to make the prototype. This can be, for example, plastic, metal, or wood.
- Create a prototype of the product using traditional craft techniques or technologies such as 3D printing.
- Test the prototype to determine whether the product works as expected and if it meets customer needs.
- Adjust the design if necessary and, if needed, make new prototypes to keep improving until the product meets all requirements.
What is a product prototype?
What are the three forms of product prototyping?
There are three main forms of product prototyping:
- Rapid prototyping, also known as quick prototyping, is a technique in which a prototype can be made quickly and efficiently using technologies such as 3D printing. This makes it possible to quickly create and test various prototypes to improve the design.
- Virtual prototyping (Digital Twin) is a technique in which a prototype is not made physically, but is instead simulated on a computer. This makes it possible to test the design and operation of the product without having to make physical prototypes.
- Working prototypes are prototypes that work as the final product will work. These prototypes are often used to test whether the product meets customer needs and to further refine the design. Working prototypes are often made with the same materials and techniques that will be used later to make the final product.
Why is prototyping important?
What is product innovation?
What forms of innovation are there?
There are different forms of innovation, depending on the context in which the innovation takes place and the specific objectives of the innovation process. Some forms of innovation are:
- Technological innovation, in which new or improved technologies are used to develop products and services.
- Process innovation, in which new or improved processes are used to develop products and services or to improve existing processes.
- Organizational innovation, in which new or improved organizational structures and processes are used to improve the efficiency and success of an organization.
- Market innovation, in which new or improved products and services are developed to meet customer needs and gain a competitive advantage.
- Social innovation, in which new or improved products and services are developed to address societal challenges and to improve the quality of life for people.
Why is product innovation important?
What do you need for product innovation?
There are a number of things needed to realize product innovation, including:
- A clear vision of the future needs of customers and the market.
- A team of experienced and skilled employees involved in the innovation process.
- Access to the right technologies and resources to develop and test new products.
- A flexible and innovative organizational culture focused on continuous improvement and development.
- Strong collaboration with other departments within the company and with external parties such as suppliers and customers.
- Sufficient financial resources to support and strengthen the innovation process.
